Wayfinding Signs

  • Artistic wayfinding incorporated into murals on the sides of buildings or painted on sidewalks (sidewalk markers were recently added all over Tech’s campus) could make Downtown feel more connected and less confusing. They can also be uniquely styled to contribute to a given Downtown neighborhoods sense of place and encourage visitors to stay longer and hop from one Downtown destination to the next. Example uses the studio came up with included using the logos of Atlanta Sports teams on the roads outside stadiums (similar to paw prints on the way to Clemson SC), artistic crosswalks in popular areas (see 10th and Piedmont Rainbow Walk), and encouraging visitors to bridge the gap from the Mercedes Benz/ Centennial Olympic area to Underground and Fairlie-Poplar

    • Makes downtown more welcoming

      • Encourages tourists and local visitors to come AND to stay

      • Highlights synergies of retail, restaurants, and attractions

    • Allows different neighborhoods to display their unique character while still feeling like a part of a unified downtown
