Shutting Down Blocks

Currently, a block of Edgewood between Jackson Street and Boulevard closes streets to through traffic on weekends. Other cities: San Francisco allows temporary street closures for neighborhood block parties and special events. Organizers apply and pay a fee. Paris has a car free day on the first Sunday of every month. DC’s “Open Streets” event happened for the first time on 10/5/2019.

• Shows attendees the area without privately owned transportation 

• Promotes public transit/inspires people to think about streets differently

• Help a street transition into a pedestrian/cyclist  only throughway
