Disincentivize Parking

  • Currently there is a lot of space that is utilized for parking in Downtown which could be used in more productive and economical ways. Operators of off-street parking lots have to get a Park for Hire Permit. The fee is described as “modest”. It is suggested that the city tax parking. In the near-term, the tax can be used to improve appearance, safety, and  security of the lots. In the long term, the revenue from the tax can be used to better manage parking, purchase lots for redevelopment, and invest in transit.

    • Reduced single-occupancy vehicles within Downtown.

    • Reduced VMT

    • Potentially increase green space

    • Utilize valuable land in productive ways
