Decrease Parking

  • There are 147 acres of unused parking in downtown even during peak hours. Reclaiming some of this land for development would stimulate the downtown economy. It would also help activate streets by bringing more foot traffic to them, making them destinations and not just thoroughfares.  Having an excess of parking keeps prices very affordable which encourages driving and decreases people’s likelihood to use other modes of transportation. The parking-oriented nature of downtown reinforces and and perpetuates the feeling o the city being built for cars instead of people.

    • Decrease heat island effect

    • Boost economy by developing excess

    • Increase people's use of other modes of transportation

    • Make downtown feel and be more people-oriented
