Best Block Contest

  • A way to create “friendly competition” to improve Downtown block by block. Case studies include “Love Your Block” initiative and the Greenest Block contest in  Brooklyn. The goal is to implement recommendations (most likely other solutions from the Master Plan) to create a clean and attractive environment. Public voting and leaderboard tracking can be implemented to provide recognition/incentive.

    • Improvement to screetscape, landscape, lighting, sustainable practices

    • Foster sense of community/communication between entities housed on blocks (social capital)

    • Foster communication between city officials and entities housed on blocks

    • Foster good public attitude about green improvements to public right-of-ways, plazas, and parking lots
